OVERVIEW
Scope of Project
The Florida Association of Financial Aid Administrators (FASFAA) is a non-profit state organization for workers in the financial aid industry. Each year they hold a 3-day training workshop for new and mid-level administrators within the state of Florida. For this project I was the workshop chair, sole instructional designer and a subject matter expert (SME).

This conference has 2 tracks available: new and mid-level. The track for new aid administrators is geared towards individuals with less than 2 years of experience while the mid-level track has a target audience of 3-5 years of experience or mid-level managers. In total there were 17 sessions. I was responsible for developing:
-
12 Microsoft PowerPoint presentations
-
14 participant worksheets with answer keys (1 for each session)
-
11 instructor guides
-
3 summative surveys
-
A final report with outcomes and recommendations for future conferences
MY PROCESS
At the onset of the project I was aware that conferences often push the threshold of the learner's cognitive load. In consideration of this I employed Adult Learning Theory and Keller's ARCS Model of Motivation. A key component to the design and development was to keep information relevant to the target audience. I intentionally designed the programming to run the same topics in both tracks but at different levels of detail. This allowed participants to move between the tracks depending on their familiarity with a particular topic to ensure learning was relevant to the individual learner. Sessions were developed to provide participants with real-world experience, such as through manual calculations, role-playing scenarios, providing examples, and active discussion among the group. These activities also served to retain participant attention and increase the participants' confidence in their own skills and knowledge. Throughout the process I made purposeful decisions to incorporate facilitation over instruction, learner-centered experiential activities, maintain a focus on relevance, and provide participants with skills and materials that were immediately applicable to their daily work so participants could remain easily motivated and learn effectively.

Participant workbooks were printed and compiled into a binder for each registered attendee. This ensured participants were able to actively take notes, complete activities and engage with each session.
Constraints
The Florida Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (FASFAA) is a non-profit organization. While there is a modest budget for the New and Mid-Level Aid Officer Workshop each year this budget cannot support the use of a more robust instructional product like Articulate or Captivate. For this reason as well as for the ease of participants and presenters, Microsoft PowerPoint is used as the primary form of instructional technology.

The PowerPoint slide design was developed by FAFSAA and provided along with branding guidelines at the onset of the assignment.

Some materials used in the workshop were purchased from the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and are not permitted for viewing without payment. Those materials have been omitted from the compilation shown in this portfolio but were provided to participants as the workshop was an authorized event for distribution of these publications. Materials published by the Department of Education were also omitted as they were not created by me, but were provided to participants and are available through the Department of Education.
